Passing Bill for giving 5% Reservation to 5 Backward Castes including Gujjar in Rajasthan
The Rajasthan government passed a bill making provision of 5% reservation for 5 castes including Gurjar, in the Legislative Assembly on February 13, 2019. Under this, the candidates of this caste will be given 5% reservation in government jobs and educational institutions.
The bill was approved by the Governor Kalyan Singh late last night. Apart from this, the state government passed a resolution and appealed to include this reservation system in the ninth schedule of the Constitution.
5% reservation for Gujjars in Rajasthan
• In the bill passed in the Assembly, five upper backward castes (1) Banjara / Baladia / Labana (2) Gadia Lohar / Gadolia (3) Gurjar / Gujar (4) Raikka / Rabari / Debasi (5) Gadaria / Gadri / Gayari Provision of 5 percent reservation has been made.
• Besides, provision of backward class reservation in the state from existing 21 percent to 26 percent has been made.
• On behalf of the state government, BD Kalla presented the Rajasthan Backward Class (Reservation of seats in the educational institutes of the state and reservation of appointments and posts in the state) Amendment Bill, 2019.
• The State Legislative Assembly also passed a government resolution in order to include the bill in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution.
Through this, the central government has been requested to include the said bill in the 9th schedule of the Constitution and make amendments in the constitution.
Background
For almost a week, people of Gujjar community were protesting for reservation, Gurjar leaders were protesting in place of demand for 5 percent reservations for entry into government jobs and educational institutions in the state. Earlier, due to the agitation 15 trains were canceled, while the route of 8 trains was diverted.
